Er kommt näher und näher, doch die Giants verlieren weiter…
Gestern Nacht waren die Arizona Diamondbacks zu Gast in der Bay Area und Barry Bonds brachte die Giants gleich im ersten Inning mit einem RBI Single gegen Livan Hernandez in Führung. Die Snakes konnten wenig später ausgleichen und im siebten Inning hatten die D-Backs dann zwei Mann auf Base und Conor Jackson an der Platte. Der schlug einen hohen Pop Up ins Center Field, Dave Roberts versaute den Catch und bei Runner kamen nach Hause – 3-2 Führung für die Gäste!
Diese Führung hielt bis zum achten Inning, als Barry Bonds als erster im achten Inning an die Platte musste und sonderbarerweise entschloss sich Manager Bob Melvin, Hernandez gegen ihn pitchen zu lassen. Die Geschichte zeigt, dass sowas nicht unbedingt schlau ist, denn Bonds arbeitete den Count voll und hämmerte dann einen 3-2 Pitch auf die Tribüne im Right Center Field zum Ausgleich – Nr. 16 in der Saison und Nr. 750 in der Karriere für den Slugger der Giants, der nun noch fünf Long Balls bis zum Rekord benötigt.
Allerdings half das den Giants auch nichts, denn im zehnten Inning schlug dann Catcher Miguel Montero den Game Winner gegen Closer Brad Hennessey und die D-Backs gewannen am Ende 4-3.
